Obviously, the higher the voltage of the battery, the more power you can expect to get from your cordless drill. While this seems to be very exciting option, there are tradeoffs to be made with a higher voltage cordless tool. There is the burden of additional cost and additional weight if you are going for a higher voltage solution for your drilling needs.
OLithium Ion (Li-Ion) - This was the latest battery technology before lithium polymer. They have a higher power density than NiMh and NiCd batteries. Li-Ion batteries generally come standard with most phones. For most people, this battery technology represents the best combination of size, capacity, and value. These types of batteries don't suffer from the poor memory effect and can be recharged anytime.
There are two things that kill a notebook battery; heat and operating outside its voltage specifications, overcharge or undercharge in plain English. They are easy to avoid if you can identify the sources. Modern Lithium-ion batteries do not suffer from memory effect, although it does occur in Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) units when charged from levels other than 0% of battery capacity. If the (NiMH) unit was fully charged when initially at say 20% capacity, the resulting available capacity would only be 80% of the factory original. Of course every time you charged the battery, the total available capacity would reduce and eventually your mobile phone would prove to be increasingly useless. Nearly all new electronic devices are now powered by Lithium batteries. You should always condition your (NiMH) battery from new.
Of course, there will be Apps. Smart phones right now are all about the apps. You need to do a bit of search. This is necessary since the right apps will help you and nasty ones will just be a liability and will eat up your space.
